Ingredients for the Sweet and Spicy Drumstcisk
Everything you need to prepare the sweet and spicy drumsticks you most likely have in your pantry. The sweet and spicy glaze has exactly 3 ingredients – honey, hot sauce, and vinegar and the rest is just seasoning and, of course, the chicken. Even if you don’t have these, they are available in your local grocery store.
Chicken drumsticks are one of my favorite parts of the chicken. If you already like drumsticks, I don’t think I need to sell you on the idea, but if you need some additional convincing, here it is: they taste very similar to chicken thighs which are already a staple in so many recipes but are significantly more affordable. The glaze flavor fits well the darker chicken meat which makes this sweet and spicy drumstick recipe so delicious.
Honey – I prefer honey to sugar. If, for some reason, you don’t have honey available, you can substitute it with sugar, but please reconsider. Honey is delicious and has some benefits for your overall health.
Vinegar – You won’t be able to taste it in the sauce, but it will counter a bit of the sweetness from the honey. This is even more important if you don’t want to add as much hot sauce as the sweetness overwhelms all other flavors.
Hot Sauce – I have added the brand I used in the instructions. There is no specific reason why this brand, other than I had that already in my pantry. You can use whatever you have available or whichever brand you prefer. The one important note is that the spicy and flavor level might vary slightly (it still will be great!) as different manufacturers use different peppers in the products. If you prefere your sweet and spicy drumsticks more sweet or more spicy, this is where you can adjust.
Sweet and Spicy Chicken Drumsticks Serving Suggestions
These drumcticks go well with everything. From simple cooked rice to a salad.
If you want something with more acidity you can try these Greek Lemon Roasted Potatoes.
If you are looking for an upgrade to your salad, try preparing this Green Goddess Dressing. The yogurt from the dressing will play well with the Sweet and Spicy Drumsticks flavor.
Preparation and Food Safety
The one important note on preparation I will add is – to be mindful of your cooking time. I have added my cooking time which is based on the size of drumsticks I had and my oven. However, this might vary slightly for you. If your drumsticks are larger, they might need some extra time. Make sure your sweet and spicy drumsticks are cooked through before serving.
